Student art work

This class will follow all mandated health protocols as set forth by the BC Ministry of Health.

Expand your creative expression by learning how to paint with acrylics and watercolours! This class will be a combination of both mediums with a significant amount of instruction being given in each. During this hands-on workshop, you'll get inspired through your own creative exploration as well as learning from great works of art. You'll be encouraged to work with subject matters ranging from reference examples (photos) to abstraction and imagination. The class will evolve as we go to meet individual interests and expressions.

Art work by Instructor Eric Hotz

Meet your instructor: Eric Hotz

Website: click here

Eric has been working full-time as an artist, illustrator, and designer for over 30 years. His art has always been inspired by the nature that surrounds him.

Eric's art focus is the exploration of natural history and biophilia – an innate tendency to seek connections with nature. He often goes out to explore the many outlying regional parks for their lakes, ponds, streams, forests, meadows, and mountains, all within a 2-hour drive from his studio in Maple Ridge. There are many beautiful locations close to where he lives waiting to be discovered that he can turn into paintings.

Eric has worked full-time on many publishing projects over the years for a wide range of clientele. He has been involved in the creation of full-color cover art, cartography, woodcut/linocut art, full-color interior art, along with Pen & Ink illustrations. Additionally, he has done design work for magazine, book, and brochure publishers. This dedicated commitment to his work has been crucial in improving his art skills over the years.

Working in art has allowed Eric to gain valuable experience. Instead of working only when he feels he has the time, he has embraced a consistent and disciplined approach to his craft. This has contributed significantly to his growth as an artist and has enabled him to continuously refine his skills.

Awards and Recognition: In October 2023, Eric's art piece titled 'A Stand of Trees No. 3' earned the 3rd Place award at the Nature Trust of British Columbia 2023 Exhibition, held at the Federation Gallery on Granville Island.
