The purpose of the Bald Headed Eagle Sculpture is to draw people's attention to saving wetlands and salmon habitats. Bald Eagles, with a wingspan of 7 feet are a truly remarkable sight circling an up-draught wind current. The large eagle sculpture was carved out of Juniper, a very slow-growing tree found in the dry interior of our province. The growth rings are about 80 years /inch with a 4" piece being over 300 years old. The outer plating of this wood was retained as much as possible in this piece. Ted Lightfoot has spent the last 20+ years trying to protect the environment as he witnessed the precarious future faced by the Salmon, deer beaver, migratory birds, and eagles that are being threatened by the encroaching development. He has received multiple awards including the 2022 Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee award for environment activism.
