Exhibition Dates & Time
This exhibition features works by the prize-winners of the Langley Arts Council's 2024 BC Wide Landscape Competition! The 2024 Landscape Competition and Live Painting Event took place at Williams Park on September 7th, where 9 artists competed for prizes. Mani Dhaliwal was awarded first place, with Iryna Kharina and Orion Alexis receiving the Honorable Mention prizes.
This exhibition is on display June 28th - August 11th 2025, in the Township of Langley Civic Building 4th Floor Gallery (20338 65 Ave, Langley, BC V2Y 3J1). The Civic Facility hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.
About the Artists
Mani Dhaliwal - First Place Award Winner
Manmeet Dhaliwal (Mani D) is a student of art. When not at his day job as an Engineer, he is learning and practicing the skills of drawing and painting, and has been doing so for 10 years. His inspirations include Jeffrey Watts, Jeremy Lipking, Anders Zorn, and many others. He prefers painting in oil, and drawing with charcoal. Currently he is focused on portraiture and landscapes, but is always experimenting with various mediums, techniques, and subject matters, to find his ultimate style. He enjoys painting en plein air, outdoors in the summer, and taking commission or doing personal work in his studio the rest of the year.
Iryna Kharina - Honorable Mention Award Winner
Iryna Kharina is a Ukrainian born professional artist and art instructor, residing and working in Chilliwack, BC.
She is a third-generation artist. And she started her first art steps with attempts to embody imagination when she was just a three-year-old child. She was following her mom’s and grandma’s creative path that, later, became her profession. Iryna got a Master’s degree in Fine Arts in Ukraine with strong academic traditions.
Iryna creates her artworks with over 30 years of painting experience, as well as her dedication to arts. Her favorite medium is oil. Even though Iryna is a traditional oil artist, she keeps experimenting with endless possibilities of oil paints. After she moved to Canada her style changed a lot under influence of the Canadian art culture. Now Iryna is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and Burnaby Artist Guild. Few years ago, Iryna was awarded with the AFCA Signature Status in the Federation of Canadian Artists. She participates in the group shows and painting contests all over Greater Vancouver and Fraser Valley areas.
Iryna’s favorite subjects are still lives and landscapes from life. She prefers to paint from life setting up the compositions of the still lives in her studio. Her still lives are often inspired by the local floral beauty and nostalgic rustic household items that telling the stories of the past. To practice painting landscapes Iryna goes outdoors to study the colors and lights in her sketches that later overgrow into the full-scale paintings.
Iryna’s paintings are in the national and international private collections: Canada, Australia, United States, Chilly, Mexico, Portugal, Israel, Ukraine
Orion Alexis- Honorable Mention Award Winner
Orion Alexis is a self-taught artist from Burnaby who has been drawing on and off since childhood but the COVID-19 pandemic provided the impetus to return to his artistic roots. After challenging himself to start painting everyday he chose watercolour as a medium that is light and easy to carry with him on the go. Orion paints much of his work en plein air when the weather and his schedule permits, capturing the feeling of the day. Orion is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and the Canadian chapter of the International Watercolour Society. He is a father of two young children, and a licensed electrician.
